About our Clinic

The QCIDD clinical service has been providing tertiary referral health care services to Queensland adults with intellectual or developmental disability since 1997.  Our service exists in a context where:

  • People with intellectual disability have had reduced life expectancies due to inadequate health care
  • Medical knowledge in relation to specific syndromes and disorders associated with intellectual or developmental disability is constantly growing
  • Queensland doctors have reported feeling under-prepared to treat patients with intellectual or developmental disability
  • These are significant gaps in both public and private, general and specialized health care services.

QCIDD's clinical service attempts to address these issues through providing a comprehensive health care assessment, that combines the clinical experience of our team with the current evidence base.  QCIDD values the role of primary health care in service provision for people with intellectual or developmental disability and our clinical service aims to work in collaboration with the person's general practitioner (G.P.).

QCIDD provides the following clinical services at no cost to Queensland adults with intellectual or developmental disability who are 17 years and older:

  • Comprehensive health assessments
  • Mental health assessment service
  • Psychology service
  • Telephone/email consultation service
